OneShot Modern Instructions

Turn a gallon of distilled water into crystal-clear lava lamp fluid in minutes. OneShot™ Modern is a precisely balanced master fluid designed to restore clarity and stable flow to modern, Chinese-made lava lamps—without guesswork or constant tinkering.

Compatibility

OneShot™ Modern is compatible with modern, Chinese-made motion lamps, including:

  • Smaller LAVA® brand lamps made between 2014–2026
  • Chinese motion lamps from brands like Lipan, Creative Motion, Lyon, Vandor
  • Models such as Hot Rock, Excalibur, Pyramid, WayOut Lite, and similar designs

Note: This page is specifically for OneShot™ Modern. If you purchased a different OneShot variant, use the instructions included with that kit.

What OneShot™ Modern Does

Modern lava lamps can become cloudy, sluggish, or unstable over time due to fluid breakdown or improper density. OneShot™ Modern replaces the original master fluid with a properly balanced solution that:

  • Restores crystal-clear fluid
  • Supports smooth, stable wax flow
  • Reduces the need for ongoing adjustments
  • Produces consistent results across multiple lamps

Most lamps will perform correctly with OneShot™ Modern alone. In rare cases, fine-tuning may be required using OneShot™ UP (see below).

Important Preparation Note

Before replacing fluid: cycle your lava lamp normally for at least one month as recommended by the manufacturer. This helps the wax stabilize before restoration. Skipping this step may result in suboptimal performance.

How to Prepare a Gallon of OneShot™ Modern

  1. Start with one gallon of distilled water (not included).
  2. Pour out ½ cup of water from the gallon.
  3. Pour the entire bottle of OneShot™ Modern into the gallon.
  4. Mix thoroughly with a clean stirrer for 2 full minutes.
Complete mixing is critical to proper performance.
  5. You now have one full gallon of ready-to-use master fluid.
  6. Apply the included “Do Not Drink” sticker to the container for safety.

Using OneShot™ Modern in Your Lamp

  1. Allow the lamp to cool completely.
  2. Mark the original fluid line on your lamp with a marker
  3. Fully drain the old fluid from your lamp.
  4. rinse the lamp out thoroughly under a stream of cold water
  5. Refill with freshly mixed OneShot™ Modern to the previously marked line
  6. Reassemble the lamp and power it on.
  7. Allow the lamp to reach full operating temperature, then observe the flow.

Most lamps will flow correctly at this stage.

Optional Fine-Tuning with OneShot™ UP

If your wax does not rise, pools at the bottom, or only forms small floating blobs even after reaching full temperature, your lamp may require minor density adjustment.

When to Use OneShot™ UP

  • Wax stays fully pooled at the bottom after the lamp is fully heated
  • Wax rises but doesn't quite make it to the top of the lamp
  • Wax is stuck in a snake

How to Adjust Using OneShot™ UP

  1. While the lamp is running, remove 5 ml of master fluid from the globe.
  2. Add 5 ml of OneShot™ UP.
  3. Observe the flow.

Repeat slowly until the desired lift is achieved.

If the Wax Is Flowing Too Much

If the wax in the lamp is flowing way too crazy, or is presenting a lot of bubbles, follow these steps:

  1. Allow the lamp to cool enough to remove the master fluid
  2. Remove 100 ml of master fluid.
  3. Replace it with 100 ml of distilled water.
  4. Allow the lamp to fully heat and observe.

Repeat as needed until the flow is where you want it.
